it was all a dream

My journey through diving began with a dream whilst watching the 2004 Athens Olympic Games on my TV when I was 9 years old. Barely months after the sport of diving had found me, I saw two British divers by the name of Leon Taylor and Peter Waterfield win an Olympic Silver Medal. From that moment, I decided that I was going to be an Olympian… because how cool would that be!! Now, almost two decades later I think back to my 9 year old self and imagine how proud he would be of what I’ve achieved. But more importantly, I thank him for understanding the task of what it takes to make a dream come true.

Planning. Persistence. Patience.

In 2011, I chose to take a leap into the unknown by representing my fathers nation of Jamaica, an island which hadn’t seen an Olympic diver of their own since the 1972 Munich Games. By doing this, I gave myself the opportunity to achieve my dream, but I only had 4 years to learn what it takes to be a high-performance athlete and how to execute under pressure at a world-class level. The (sometimes very harsh) lessons I learned through the highs and lows of this process, I believe, are transferrable from sport to business and to life.

Let me take you on what was for me the journey of a lifetime. Unfortunately, not everybody will be able to experience what it is like to represent your country on the biggest stage, but many people can certainly relate to the internal and external pressures that come with it.

If you believe that your organisation, your staff or your team can improve their performance, then let me have a word with them.
